The term “cold storage” is often used loosely in reference to climate controlled warehouses. This can make things slightly confusing for companies looking for a facility that can cater to their specific temperature requirements.
Are you in need of some cold storage clarity? Here’s a handy guide to temperature breakdowns in climate controlled warehouses.
Freezer: To qualify as freezer storage by USP standards, temperatures in a storage unit must fall within the -4°F to 14°F range, though most frozen foods (such as fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat) should be kept at temperatures below 0°F in order to maintain their integrity. Minnesota
Freezer Warehouse Company (MFWC) has freezer storage capabilities at both our Albert Lea and Austin facilities.
Cold: Cold storage (which may also be referred to as cooler storage or refrigerated storage) temperatures, according to the USP, must not exceed 46°F. There are many products that need to be kept within a temperature range that falls into this category; a few examples include:
- Fresh produce (36°F to 39°F)
- Dairy products (36°F to 39°F)
- Individual meat cuts (36°F to 39°F)
- Fresh seafood (30°F to 34°F)
Cool: The USP defines storage conditions falling between 46°F and 59°F as “cool.” Most dry goods need to be kept within this temperature range. MFWC has 40,000 square feet of ambient dry storage capacity at our Albert Lea facility.
