What Our GCCA Membership Means for Customers of Climate-Controlled Storage in the Upper Midwest

At Minnesota Freezer Warehouse Company, the protection of food safety and support of an unbroken cold chain from farm to shelf is our number one priority. As a provider of climate-controlled storage for frozen, refrigerated, and dry foods, we understand the importance of food safety on an industrial scale. We are committed to providing every aspect of climate-controlled food storage needed to protect the cold chain and promote food safety. Our facilities are certified annually, meeting USDA, AIB International, MNSHARP, and GCCA standards. Our partnership with the Global Cold Chain Allowance (GCCA) opens doorways for MFWC as a provider of climate-controlled storage in the Upper Midwest and for our customers of all production sizes.

The GCCA promotes the growth and initiation of cold chain practices in the food industry worldwide. In 2007, the GCCA was established as a platform for cold chain industrial providers. Membership with the GCCA offers a support system with education and communication as key outlets and an overall network available to all food storage companies. The GCCA also partners with the World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), a nonprofit providing global support services and continued research to the food production, packing, storage, and transportation industries.

MFWC’s membership with the GCCA gives us opportunities to grow as a company and provider of quality climate-controlled storage. Because of this, we are able to offer better services to our customers, including:

  • Improved Services: The GCCA partners with three core supporters of the cold chain and food safety in the global food industry. These core partners include the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW), the International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA), and the Controlled Environment Building Association (CEBA). All three of these organizations provide support, resources, education, relationships, and recognition to the members of the GCCA. With the help of these GCCA partners, MFWC can continually improve our facilities and services in all areas.
  • Reduced Waste: With improvements to our facilities and practices, we’re able to streamline storage practices including receiving loads, freezing processes, continued climate-control, packaging, inventory keeping, and shipping. This means our facilities reduce waste across the board and our customers can partner with a more environmentally friendly, efficient storage provider without compensating for excess costs in energy and storage upkeep.
  • Safety Credibility: The GCCA and their partners use their resources to explore the best possible practices for food storage and transport. This includes implementing research at the forefront of the industry to improve the standards members must meet. As a member of the GCCA, MFWC can guarantee the credentials of our food safety practices. We strive to uphold those standards each year, adjusting to changes and improving our own practices along the way.

With food safety and storage practices improved with our GCCA membership, our customers receive industry leading services and state-of-the-art facilities.
